Abstract

201,567. Pollak, F. July 27, 1922, [Convention date]. Preparing surfaces.-A porous base to be plated is rendered conductive by coating it with colloidal cr finely-divided graphite, the particles of which do not exceed 3 macrons in diameter, and should also be small enough to enter the pores of the base. The base may be preliminarily coated with a thin layer of lacquer or varnish; wood may, before this step, be treated with paraffin or retene. The graphite, in dry form or as a concentrated colloidal suspension, is applied by gentle rubbing. It may be obtained by mechanical means, chemical means such as employed in the production of copper " bronze," or by a combination of both methods. Leather, concrete, cardboard, fabrics, &c. may be plated by the above described method.
