Abstract
A stop valve has a hollow cylindrical chamber (10) situated between the inlet (4) and outlet (6), and an apertured rotatable tubular member (8) whose axis is at right angles to that of the outlet. The outlet coaxially receives a tubular insert (20) having an inner end surface contoured to confront the curved outer surface of the tubular member, and a sealing ring (22) in sealing contact with said curved outer surface. The pressure of water during use ensures a tight seal at the contoured end surface of the insert (20). <IMAGE>
