Abstract

A stripper ring 7 for use with a reciprocatable rod, for instance a piston rod 1, for stripping dust, impurities, oil etc. from the rod when moved in one direction relative to the stripper ring, which ring is formed with a cylindrical carrier portion 11 which can be mounted in a recess 14 in a stationary part, for instance a cylinder, and an obliquely radially inwardly directed sealing lip portion 13 for contacting the periphery of the rod 1, and at or adjacent the carrier portion 11 the stripper ring is formed with an outer radial rib portion 19 engagable in a locking groove 16 formed in the recess 14 to keep the ring from moving out of engagement with the groove 14, and the ring is mounted in the recess 14 with some radial and preferably also some axial clearance to allow at least some radial movement of the ring in relation to the stationary part 5 in which the ring is mounted. <IMAGE>
