Abstract
Electronic apparatus for automatically adjusting the timing of the injection of fuel in a fuel injection internal combustion engine comprises a transducer for evaluating one or more operating parameters e.g. engine speed (10) load (11), temperature (12). The separate values sensed in operation by each transducer are fed to an electrical evaluating device (16) (e.g. a microprocessor) which gives a desired value output signal corresponding to the instantaneous optimum injection timing. An injection timing transmitter (15) produces an output signal giving the actual value of injection timing which is proportional to the position of an eccentric shaft (4) mechanically controlling the injection timing. When a difference arises between the desired value and actual value a control device (6) actuated through a power amplifier (7) is brought into use which adjusts the position of the eccentric shaft (4) as required and hence the injection timing. This correcting action is maintained until there is no longer any appreciable difference between the desired and actual values. The output of the injector (1) is controlled by an accelerator pedal which moves rod (8) through linkage (9) and the position of rod (8) is signalled by transducer (11) as a measure of the load on the engine. <IMAGE>
