Abstract
A timing pulse generator for use with a rotary shaft comprises a rotary member such as a disc 1 which is secured to the shaft and a sensor 4 movable parallel to a surface of the member, which surface bears an irregularity detectable by the sensor and extending in a spiral on said surface. The irregularity could be a band of magnetic material; in a preferred form it is provided by making the member a disc 1 of transparent material and covering said surface with opaque paint except along a band 3 in the form of one complete convolution of an Archimedean spiral. The radial position of the sensor 4 is adjustable, conveniently by a carrier 5 supported on an elongated screw 6, so that rotation of the screw 6 by means of a knob 8 moves the sensor 4 radially of the disc. <IMAGE>
