Abstract

A reinforced earth structure comprises a facing 20 bounding an earth fill in an embankment or cutting in road works with stabilising elements 14 extending into the earth fill from the facing. Facing units making up the facing have slidable connections 38 with stabilising elements to allow relative movement of the latter to accommodate settlement of earth fill without imposing undue stress on facing units. One form of connection comprises a metal rod 50 removably mounted in an opening or pocket 45 in a facing unit and passing through a hole in a stabilising member. In one variation, a U-shaped bracket is attached to the rear of a facing unit and the upper end of the rod is bent over to prevent it falling through holes in the bracket. Other variations include a T-shaped projection on either facing unit or stabilising element fitting within a flanged channel on the other member. <IMAGE>
