Abstract

A rotary sorting table for articles having a long dimension and a short dimension, has an outlet channel (9, 10) with a width substantially matched to the short dimension of the articles so that they can only pass along the channel in end-to-end formation, and, in the region of the mouth of the channel, a rotary deflector 11 which is driven during operation and has a surface which only frictionally engages the articles when they are pressed against it, the arrangement, and the direction of rotation of the deflectors 11, being such that the deflector frictionally engages any transversely arranged articles B due to pressure of the forwardly moving column of articles approaching the outlet channel and forward movement of the table, and removes them from the column, correctly oriented articles A, C passing between the rotating deflector and a guide 9 spaced therefrom at a distance slightly greater than the short dimension of the articles. <IMAGE>
