Abstract

Containers that are formed from thermoplastics materials often suffer from wear on their outlets due to the low strength of the materials used for their production. A protective sleeve 3 for locking attachment to a raised outlet portion 2 of a container 1 is provided with means for preventing movement of the sleeve in a direction that would cause the sleeve and outlet portion to become separated and is of a harder plastics than that forming the container. The sleeve 3 is provided with a screw-thread 10 so that it can be screwed onto the raised outlet portion, and the means for preventing movement comprises a series of ratchet teeth 9 that can engage a corresponding series of teeth 7 on the container to prevent the sleeve from being unscrewed from the container. The invention also provides an outlet portion for a container which is suitable for receiving a protective sleeve according to the invention. <IMAGE>
