Abstract

A construction comprises a structure used to a body, the structure comprising poly crystalline material and the body comprising iron group metal; the poly crystalline material comprises a plurality of nano-grains of a crystalline phase of an iron group element; each nano-grain having a mean size that most 50 nm. The nano-grains may be dispersed in a binder matrix comprising a crystalline phase. The poly crystalline material may comprise a contiguous aggregation of the nano-grains embedded in a binder matrix comprising a crystalline phase, the nano-grains comprised in the aggregation having respective grain boundaries between them. The binder may have a nano-hardness at least nought 0.9 GPa. The nano grains may comprise austenite or ferrite. A tool comprising the construction and a method for making the construction are also disclosed.
