Abstract

A harvesting machine comprises crop processing means (14), feeder means (21 to 24) for feeding crop material to the processing means, a drive train (12, 15, 16, 20) for driving the feeder means, and detector means (26, 27) for detecting undesirable objects passing through the feeder means, the detector means being operable upon the detection of an undesirable object to initiate instantaneous arrest of the drive to the feeder means by means of a ratchet 51 and to break the drive train for the feeder means by putting the gearbox 16 into the neutral position. The arrest of the drive to the feeder means may be virtually simultaneously with, or slightly after, the breaking of the feeder means drive train. <IMAGE>
