Abstract
Musical wind instruments, particularly those with a reed carried at a mouth-piece or holder (5), such as a saxophone, often have an upper hole (2), or so-called "second mouth-piece", capable of selective opening/closure to extend the range of the instrument beyond that available from its normal key mechanism (not shown). The invention provides at least one further hole (6) with a selective closure (7) operated via a suitable linkage (8, 9). This further extends the range of the musical instrument, usually by an octave. <IMAGE>
