Abstract

A process for eliminating hydrogen sulfide contained in a gas to be purified comprises the steps of reacting the hydrogen sulfide with sulfur dioxide in a solvent in the presence of excess hydrogen sulphide, absorbing excess hydrogen sulfide contained in the partially purified gas in the same solvent and recycling the solution of hydrogen sulfide obtained in the absorption step to the reaction step. <IMAGE>
