Abstract

A self-curling laminate (1) comprises a relatively stiff first layer (2) and a second layer (3) laminated to the first layer. The second layer is thicker than the first layer and is of relatively elastic plastics material, under tension. A process for making such a self-curling laminate, comprises laminating together the first layer (2) and the second layer (3) while maintaining both layers under tension, the tension applied to the second layer being substantially greater than that applied to the first layer. Also disclosed are articles including a bookmark comprising such a self-curling laminate, reading instruments incorporating such films and labels. The first layer may be a polyester, vinyl chloride polymer, polycarbonate, polystyrene or regenerated cellulose film or a synthetic paper and the second layer polyethylene, nylon, ionomer resin, vinyl chloride polymer or an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer. The layers maybe bonded together by an adhesive e.g. polyethylene. <IMAGE>
