Abstract

A manhole cover 100 has an upper face 106 that is arrangeable in use to extend across manhole opening. The cover has a seat engaging portion 102 that is arrangeable in use to rest on a manhole supporting seat 110. The manhole cover seat engaging portion is set back from an outer edge 104 of the upper face. The seat engaging portion may extend inwardly from a depth-setting flange 108, and the flange may have an outward-facing surface that extends downwardly and inwardly from the upper face and inwardly from the upper face. The surface may be frusto-conical surface which is a portion of a right circular cone. There may be a seal, a locking device and a pressure relief valve. Other inventions include a manhole cover with a sealing member, a lifting structure, a coupler or lifting head, and a method of raising a manhole cover using a lifting trolley.
