Abstract

The bracing element comprises an elongate spacing portion 2 with at least one aperture 14 and elements for attaching the bracing element to timber elements. The attachment elements comprise at least one connector plate 3. There may be a single elongate aperture or a plurality of apertures along the length of the spacing portion. Each aperture comprises a flange 15 formed integrally with the spacing portion and upstanding from the surface of the bracing element. The flange may be either continuous or discontinuous around the aperture and further includes a bearing element. The bracing element may also comprise a serrated edge flange that forms part of the attachment means. Also claimed is a joist comprising at least one of the bracing elements and a sheet metal blank for forming a bracing element.
