Abstract
A positioning body 8 is coupled to a flexible elongate member 7. The elongate member is coupled to an underwater tow body 2, towable by a surface vessel. The positioning body may comprise means for changing or maintaining its horizontal position relative to the tow body for imparting a positioning force on the elongate member during towing. The flexible elongate member may be an antenna cable for a CSEM survey, with the tow body being a source fish and the positioning member a tail fish. Alternatively the flexible elongate member may be a seismic streamer (figs 3A-3C). There may be a plurality of elongate members towed by the tow body, and a plurality of positioning member on each elongate member. The positioning body may be a wing, e.g. a delta wing, Eppler-837 profile wing. The wing may have a hollow portion which houses operational equipment. The wings centre of mass may be separated from its centre of volume. The wing may comprise a syntactic foam core with an outer composite layer.
