Abstract
A locking device is operable in one mode to restrain relative movement between a first member (6) and a second member (8) of a structure and comprises a locking element (14) in use attached, in said one mode, by a frangible connection (18) to one of the first and second members (6, 8) and provided with a deformable member (21) connected to the other member. The locking device further comprises means, e.g. a fuse head, operable to break the frangible connection (18) when the locking device is no longer required to operate in said one mode, the locking element (14) being movable about the deformable member (21) when the frangible connection is broken, whereby relative movement be tween the first and second members (6, 8) can be effected. A locking device in accordance with the invention can lock a missile exhaust nozzle in a straight- ahead position and then be released without hindering movement of the nozzle to effect thrust vector control and without becoming detached from the missile. <IMAGE>
