Abstract

A monitoring device is provided for monitoring an individual, comprising: a main body 10; a means for attaching 31,32 the main body 10 to a person to be monitored; a system on or within the main body, the system including at least two of: a receiver, a sensor, and a transmitter; one or more security devices (such as an anti-cut material) within the main body and/or the attaching means (strap 33) for hindering removal of the device from the person to be monitored; a means for alerting a remote monitoring station or individual about any unauthorised removal or interference with the device or attaching means; and a means for alerting the remote monitoring station or individual about the welfare of the person to be monitored or interactions of the person to be monitored with their surroundings. The monitoring device may further comprise a means for tracking the location of the person to be monitored and communicating the location to the remote monitoring system or individual. The device may further comprise an accelerometer and/or a temperature sensor. The device may also be arranged to monitor heart and blood sugar level data.
