Abstract

Method of controlling the temperature dependent mode of an exhaust after treatment device, EATD, within an engine system, where the method comprises identifying a target EATD mode, regulating an EATD temperature to within a temperature range corresponding with the target mode by controlling a gas pressure difference of the engine system between a first location and a second location. The method may also comprise determining if the temperature of the EATD is within the temperature range corresponding with the target mode and adjusting the pressure difference if the temperature is not. Preferably the temperature and pressure difference is measured and the pressure difference is controlled by adjusting one or more valves. The EATD may be controlled by changing fuelling and/or engine timing control. An exhaust treatment system is also claimed.
