Abstract
A transfer box for interconnecting a first shaft (312, fig 6) which is offset from a second shaft (310), the transfer box comprises first and second transfer members 102, 104 each having three gears 108a 108b, 110a, 110b, 112a, 112b supported on shafts 114, 115, 116a, 116b, 118a, 118b arranged so that gear 108a meshes with gear 110a which in turn meshes with gear 112a and gear 108b meshes with gear 110b which in turn meshes with gear 112b. Gears 112a and 108b are pivotally connected by shaft 106 so that distance A between shafts 114 and 115 is variable according to a degree of pivot. The gears may be replaced by sprockets and chains or pulleys and belts. A method uses two transfer boxes to connect, via a torque tube (202), offset outputs of two rotating machines such as wind turbine gearboxes so that they may be tested.
