Abstract
Loss of ammonia from urea due to hydrolysis in the soil is reduced by applying the urea in association with certain salts, oxides and/or hydroxides, e,g. of iron and/or aluminium. The association is preferably a mixture of urea and a complex or addition salt of urea with the iron or aluminium salt, containing at least one molar proportion of metal per 40 molar proportions of urea, However, a physical mixture of urea and a salt or oxide can be applied directly to the soil and the complex formed in situ in the soil. The use of iron and aluminium salts, oxides or hydroxides gives better results than when salts of other metals are used.
