Abstract

This invention relates to a friction welded wheel for a vehicle and its production process the wheel comprising an annular wheel rim 3 and a disc means 2 which extends generally radially inwardly from the rim and which includes at its periphery a skirt portion 2 which extends generally parallel to the axis of the wheel, the skirt portion being friction welded, by relative rotation of the skirt and disc means when they are in engagement, at its distal end to the rim, preferably on a generally radially extending part 4 of the rim. In the preferred embodiment, the generally radially extending part 4 extends into a generally axially extending part 8 at its radially inner end and the skirt portion engages the generally radially extending part 4 adjacent said part 8. <IMAGE>
