Abstract

A machine 10 for attaching end stops 24 to a pair of sliding clasp fastener stringers 42, 43 includes a punch 21 movable by drive means 13 toward and away from a die 22 on which the fastener stringers are disposed, and a no-end-stop detector 52, 57, 58 operatively associated with the punch. The punch is connected to the drive means through a lost motion connection 18, 47 such that when the punch directly engages the chain length 44a of the stringers with no end stop supplied therebetween, the punch is held away from the drive means thereby actuating the detector to stop the operation of the machine. Accordingly, since the machine becomes automatically inoperative the instant the punch finds no end stop therebeneath at the end of its downward stroke, there will issue out of the machine no fastener stringers devoid of end stops. <IMAGE>
