Abstract

Liquid polyglycidyl ethers of polyhydric phenols are prepared by (A) reacting the polyhydric phenol with an excess of epichlorohydric in the presence of a soluble ionizable halide as a condensation catalyst at temperatures of from 60 to 130 DEG C, (B) diluting the product of step (A) with from 40 to 80 percent of its weight of a water-soluble organic solvent and optionally water, and reacting it in one or more stages with an aqueous solution of an alkali metal hydroxide at a temperature below 65 DEG C, the amount of water being sufficient to keep the alkali metal halide formed in aqueous solution, separating the aqueous alkali metal halide, and (C) recovering the polyglycidyl ether. c
