Abstract

In a system for separating one component from a fluid mixture, e.g. to produce a breathable fluid, by alternately presenting the fluid mixture to first and second beds 14, (16) (Fig. 1C not shown) respectively of adsorbent material, control valves 40 (or 46) admit the fluid under pressure from a supply conduit 24 to one selected of the beds for adsorption whilst control valves (42) or 48 allow purging of the other bed to a source of reduced pressure. A control device (52) (Fig. 1A not shown) generates first and second control signals which close valves 40 and (42) and valves (46) and 48, respectively. The first and second control signals partially overlap for a time period during which pressure is equalized between the first and second beds through an equalization valve 270. A pressure detector (50) generates a switching signal each time that the pressure in the supply conduit 24 becomes greater than a predetermined level. In response to the successive switching signals, the first and second control signals are alternatively initiated. <IMAGE>
