Abstract

The present invention relates to a process for removing lithium and other impurities from zinc oxide. The process of the invention comprises the step of exposing a sample of zinc oxide to zinc vapour at a temperature of at least 650°C. The zinc oxide is then processed to remove the outer layer. Zinc oxide having concentrations of lithium of less than 1x1014 atoms/cm3 can be obtained using the process of the invention.
