Abstract

A deflection yoke coil for a cathode ray tube (e.g. colour c.r.t.) is constructed, and/or electrically connected, that the electrical turn density at least in one section of the coil is of opposite polarity to that in the remainder of, or at least another section of the coil. Tappings may be provided allowing electrical connection in opposition (Figs 3, 4 not shown), and the sections may be manufactured separately (Fig. 5, not shown) a parallel connected resistor allowing amplitude variation. Alternatively during winding the rotation direction of the winding machine may be reversed using projection (4) (Fig. 6, not shown). The former arrangement is preferred since reversal of high inertia winding machinery is not required. A projection (5), Fig. 7, may assist winding reversal for a rotating arm, stationary mould machine. The toroidal distribution being achieved by a notched plastic crown. Reversely connected radial or non-radial packages may be used. Fourier distributions are considered and a mathematical analysis included. <IMAGE>
