Abstract

A device for burning, sintering, cooling or drying material in granular form, comprises a gas-permeable support arrangement (5,8,13) operative to support the material when flowing through the device. The support arrangement (5,8,13) comprises portions inclined in the direction of flow through the device whereby the material flows through the device in the form of an inclined layer of approximately uniform average thickness. This ensures overall uniform heating or cooling of the material. <IMAGE>
