Abstract

An electrically heatable continuous muffle or retort furnace is disclosed, the furnace comprising a closed retort or muffle (12) and being divided into at least two sections (100) across its length. Rod-shaped electric heating elements (11) are positioned around the retort with their front and end portions aligned with the front and rear ends of the sections (100). These elements are so positioned that their heat-radiating surfaces are substantially exposed in all sides thereof and their ends are placed at the boundaries of said sections upon bearing devices (10). Insulation for the roof and/or sidewalls of the furnace is in the form of blocks of non-structural fibrous insulation material (18). <IMAGE>
