Abstract

An oscillator circuit (Figure 2) has a varactor diode 4 for setting its frequency of oscillation. A limiter 5 limits the amplitude of oscillations of the circuit so the diode never becomes conductive allowing a capacitor C to be used to integrate a tuning current so the oscillator can be tuned according to the charge on the capacitor. A control system (Figure 3) using the charge tuned oscillator has two loops Figures A and B. A coarse control loop Figure 3A changes the capacitor until the oscillator frequency is approximately equal to a reference frequency. The other loop Figure 3B uses an operational transconductance amplifier OTA to charge and discharge the capacitor to more finely adjust the oscillator frequency. <IMAGE>
