Abstract
An electronic dynamic timing system enables a spark ignition internal combustion engine's ignition timing to be checked over a range of engine speeds and ignition timings whereby the problem of checking the ignition timing of a series of engines running at differing speeds is simplified. To provide a speed independent timing indication, a pulse train indicative of engine speed is filtered and this signal is processed according to information regarding the ignition system of the vehicle under test to provide a voltage representing the time period corresponding to the desired ignition timing at that existing engine speed. This is compared to the actual timing to produce high, low or correct timing indications on three lights. Provision is also made to enable static timing and other variables to be checked. <IMAGE>
