Abstract
The thickness of the walls of a hollow gas turbine blade 1 and/or the volume of the passageways 2 in the blade 1 is measured by introducing a ferromagnetic liquid into the passageways 2 by means of a cylinder 7 and piston 8 arrangements and scanning the outer surface of the blade 1 with an electromagnetic probe 11 which includes a coil. Changes in the impedance of the coil, connected in an A.C. bridge circuit, are recorded and the record compared with changes in impedance caused by moving the probe 11 over a standard blade of known dimensions. <IMAGE>
