Abstract

An agent for the chemotherapy of viruses in cultivated plants, comprises at least one guanidine compound of the general formula:- <IMAGE> wherein R1, R2, R3, R4 and/or R5 are hydrogen atoms and/or primary amino groups, or wherein R1, R2, R3 and/or R4 signify -CH3, -CH2OH, -CH2COOH, -CH = CH-COOH, -C2H5, -C2H4OH, -C2H4COOH and/or -CN; or wherein R1 and/or R3 signify -C6H5, o-, m- or p-C6H4OH, o-, or m- or p C6H4(COOH), o- or m-C6H3(OH)2, o- or m-C6H3(COOH)2, -CO(CH2)nCH3, -CO(CH20nCH2OH (n = 0 to 4), <IMAGE> (R3 and R4 having the same meanings as above), <IMAGE> in admixture with a solid or liquid diluent or carrier. The present invention also provides a process for combating virus diseases in cultivated plants, as well as plants and materials which have been treated in order to render them resistant to or free from attack by viruses.
