Abstract

An antacid composition which comprises microcrystalline calcium carbonate and microcrystalline magnesium carbonate hydroxide dispersed in a matrix of amorphous aluminium hydroxide, contains aluminium, calcium and magnesium in the following in amounts: Aluminium: 25 to 30% by weight, calculated as Al2O3 Calcium: 1.0 to 1.8% by weight, calculated as CaO Magnesium: 13 to 19% by weight, calculated as MgO. The composition provides a rapid neutralization of gastric acids at an optimum pH and a long lasting buffering action.
