Abstract

A fluorescent display device includes a hot cathode, a grid, and a plurality of fluorescent anode segments which are disposed on an insulating substrate and which extend radially from a point and are insulated from another to provide, for example, a time display of analogue type. A plurality of anode segments extend radially from a predetermined point, the anode segments being insulated from another. For use in or as a timepiece, a grid member (35) comprises first and second partial grids (36) and (37) insulated from each other and juxtaposed to radially inner and outer portions of the anode segments, respectively. The second grid (37) is put into operation in a time- division fashion while the first grid (36) is rendered continuously operative. The display of the minute hand is given by simultaneously energizing the first and second grids (36) and (37) together with one of the anode segments while for display of the hour hand, only the first grid (36) and one of the anode segments are energised. <IMAGE>
