Abstract

In order to reduce the amount of spillage of lumpy materials such as coke carried on a troughed belt conveyor, static side skirt plates 16 are provided on either side of the belt 11 and the working faces of these skirt plates are made of a natural or synthetic rubbery elastomeric material 18. The edge of the belt is preferably in sliding contact with the working faces of the skirt plates, which may extend for some distance under the belt and are suitably inclined at the same angle as the edge of the belt. Lumpy material which spills from the belt tends to be thrown back by the rubbery surface when it is pushed by the edge of the belt. <IMAGE>
