Abstract

Shaped articles such as ventilation elements, atomizers, filter plates, artificial joints and bones of non-uniform structure are produced by compressing, in a locally differing manner, a pulverulent material capable of sintering, and subjecting it subsequently to a heat treatment. This provides, in a single operation, a shaped article having different zones of density and structure. A mould (3), Fig. 3, for the manufacture of a filter disc includes a ring (4), a spring-urged plate (5) and a compression plate (6) whereby the peripheral zone of the produced article is impermeable and its central zone permeable. <IMAGE>
