Abstract

Roll grinding machine comprises a neckrest 26 comprising a base unit mounted on ways for sliding movement parallel to the machine axis lengthwise of the roll 24 to a suitable position for supporting the roll, the base unit carrying a pair of bearing assemblies 40 42 on which the roll is carried. The bearing assemblies can be adjusted along paths normal to the machine axis to accurately align the work in the machine by means which for one of the assemblies provides both coarse and fine adjustment, the fine adjustment being provided by a reduction gearing system. The bearing assemblies are so mounted that the load is transferred to the main frame directly, to provide good stability. <IMAGE>
