Abstract

The invention provides a method and an oil collector means which achieves a reduction in the amount of water which accompanies the collected oil and thus reduce the need for oil/water separator equipment. Portions of the water surface (9) with the oil (9') floating thereon are forced down by blades (2, 2', 2''...) defining compartments (4) in a rotating structure, e.g. a blade wheel (1) or an endless belt entrainer around at least two rollers, whereby the oil rises up to the inner ends of the compartments. The invention is characterised in that oil is sucked from the compartments and flows through at least one opening (5) provided at the inner end of each compartment into at least one opening (8) provided in a pipe/chamber (7) which lies interior of the compartment, in sealed relation thereto, and which is connected to a suction pump and collection tank, said openings being brought into alignment for a period of time sufficient to effect the suctioning of substantially oil only. <IMAGE>
