Abstract

Chroman derivatives of the formula (I): <IMAGE> and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof (wherein the carbon atom marked with an asterisk is in the same configuration as that in (-)-2,2- dimethyl-7-hydroxy-4-(3- trifluoromethylphenyl)chroman and wherein X is an alkylene group of 2- 4 carbon atoms; R1 is a hydrogen atom or a C1-4 alkyl group and R2 is a C1-4 alkyl group or is joined to R1 so that NR1R2 is a 5- or 6-membered saturated ring; and R3 is a hydrogen, fluorine, chlorine, bromine, methyl, methoxyl or trifluoromethyl group) possess useful anti-depressant and anorexic activity. The compounds I may be prepared by introduction of the -X-NR1R2 group.
