Abstract

For scanning switching devices (X1, X2, X3) in a telecommunications exchange, an interrogating device (D) interrogates indication points (a1 to c3) of the switching devices sequentially. Those points whose interrogation results indicate a switching state transition, from a comparison of consecutive interrogation results, are identified as requiring to be interrogated at increased frequency until the switching state transition is confirmed or contra-indicated or until after the switching state transition has been confirmed a further switching state transition is confirmed. <IMAGE>
