Abstract

The invention provides a spacing device for use in supporting reinforcing steel in the casting of concrete, comprising a hollow body having a cylindrical fixing portion 1 and a conical portion 2 with rounded apex 3, the body being formed of a foamed thermo-plastic material so that when the cylindrical portion 1 of the spacing member is pressed against a portion of a reinforcing steel network which has been preheated the material will melt and expand so that it covers that part of the network which penetrates into the fixing portion. This allows the thickness of the concrete cover over the reinforcement to be varied. <IMAGE>
