Abstract

A phenol-free composition suitable for sealing joints in gas pipes by swelling the fibrous, usually hemp, seal in the joint comprises 70 to 99% by weight of polyhydric alcohol and/or ether alcohol and 1 to 30% by weight of tar-compatible physiologically tolerable plasticiser as tar-activation agent.
