Abstract

A device for providing a reference direction in a rotating body 15 comprises a member 14 pivoted and immersed in a liquid of substantially the same specific gravity as itself and contained in a casing 15 which rotates about the pivot axis of the member and means 10-12 for detecting and determining the rotational drift of the member 14 induced through viscous drag. The device is useful in for providing a local vertical in a spin-stabilised self- rotating guided missile having a flight duration short enough for only a minimal drift to be induced. Intermediate members may be provided between the member 14 and the casing 15 (figures 2 and 4, not shown). <IMAGE>
