Abstract

A sensor 100 for measuring the O2 content in the exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine is comprised of a titania resistor 101 and a zirconia resistor 102 mounted in a ceramic insulator 10 which is mounted in a metal housing 20 adapted to be connected to the exhaust system of an internal combustion engine. The resistance of the zirconia resistor 102 varies only as a function of the temperature of the gas while the resistance of the titania resistor 101 varies as a function of both the temperature of the gas, and the oxygen in the exhaust gas to which it is exposed; accordingly, the effect of the temperature of the exhaust gas on the sensor is minimized and/or eliminated over its range of operation. <IMAGE>
