Abstract

A preferably horizontal continuous casting plant consists of a holding furnace 9, mould 7, strand withdrawal device 5, 6 and strand coiler 2 and the withdrawal device and coiler for compactness, form a single unit 3 which includes at least one driven pinch roll set 5 or 6 for withdrawing a strand 4 from the mould. There is a movable cutter 8 between roll sets 5, 6. Set 6 is driven at increased speed. Controls 12, 13 may provide incremental withdrawal. <IMAGE>
