Abstract
An optical fibre connector for contacting the exposed core ends 12 of two optical fibres 10 for the transmission of light. The connector includes two holders 18, one for each fibre, each holder 18 having provision for receiving a cable passage sleeve 16 containing one of the two fibre ends 12. Each holder 18 also includes an integral plug 38 for insertion into a loose coupling sleeve 20. In final assembly, the coupling sleeve 20 is positioned intermediate the two holders 18 and the fibre ends are contacted within a centering device 22 inside the coupling sleeve 20. The connector provides for a flexible yet efficient contacting of fibre ends, wherein variations in fibre end-to-end contact pressures may be accommodated. <IMAGE>
