Abstract
In a process for monitoring and/or controlling the moisture content of a material 64, such as powdered milk, falling from a chute of a material processor (46, Fig. 1 not shown) onto a window 58 on a sight tube 60, the moisture content of a selected number of samples of the processed material is measured by an apparatus employing an infra red source and a filter wheel 88 containing two interference filters 87. An air nozzle 66 connected to a air source removes each sample. A running average value 10 over the selected number of the most recent sample moisture content measurements is used to control a drier unit 20 of the material processor (Fig. 1 not shown) and to supply an analogue indicator 110, a digital indicator 108 and a tape printer 111. <IMAGE>
