Abstract

A centrifuge for separating impurities from a liquid includes a rotational chamber 10, and a discharge system within the chamber for discharging sludge from the chamber. The discharge system comprises an internal shaft 16 rotatable both independently of and together with the chamber 10, and a plurality of segmental discs 18 projecting from the shaft and axially spaced and angularly displaced round the shaft from one another. Each disc carries, at its free end, a plough- shaped wedge 19 extending closely adjacent the inner wall of the chamber to remove deposited sludge therefrom when rotating independently of the chamber. <IMAGE>
