Abstract

An hydraulic brake system for a motor vehicle has means (7, 10, 11, 12, 17, 18) for reducing or limiting the force acting on at least a respective brake or brakes (13) of the system. These means (7, 10, 11, 12, 17, 18) are contained within the piston/cylinder actuator unit of the respective brake(s) such that the piston (2) of the unit is embraced by a piston braking device (10) which obstructs or prevents axial displacement of the piston (2) in the cylinder when a predetermined pressure therein is exceeded. <IMAGE>
